Welcome to Sixth-Grade Science at Yazoo County Middle School!  My name is Melanie Davis-Hardy, and I am WILD about science.

As a Summa Cum Laude graduate of Hinds Community College (1993) and Mississippi College (1995 and 2000), I hold both a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Elementary Education.  I have received my Highly Qualified Status in both Mathematics (Holmes Community College) and in Science (Jackson State University), and I am a member of the Mississippi Science Teachers Association.  I was selected by my peers as the 2000 Bentonia-Gibbs Teacher of the Year, and I was also chosen as the 2001 Mississippi Environmental Education Teacher of the Year. In 2001, the Bentonia-Gibbs Elementary School Earth Day Program that I designed placed second on a national level, and I also served as an Ed Tech teacher for the Mississippi Department of Education.

After teaching at Goodman-Pickens Elementary School for two years, I have been a part of the Yazoo County School District for the past 20 years.  Sixteen of those years were spent at Bentonia-Gibbs Elementary School teaching math, science, and social studies while the last three years have been spent at Yazoo County Middle School in the science department. At YCMS, I presently serve as the Science Department Chairperson and Science Fair Coordinator.
